With a base price of $3027 the Super Bee was only $130 more than the Road Runner. Both cars had the same chassis and the same engine (335 bhp four barrel 383 cid V8). Both cars also had nearly identical curb weights and performance. Dodge did attempt an engine option with the 426 Hemi but with the $1000 price tag difference only 125 were ordered. Although priced affordable the Super Bee was in no way plain. In addition to heavy duty suspension brakes four-speed manual transmission with Hurst Competition Plus shifter and redline wide oval tires being standard the Super Bee also had Bumble Bee racing stripes encircling the tail and the huge Super Bee emblem on the rear fenders! With the grill being finished in black matte and the distinctive power bulge on the hood the Super Bee was set to fly.
