The El Camino was totally revamped for 1973 including a longer body and new front and rears. Unfortunately it was the last year for the Super Sport and the last year of high performance in this automobile.

"On the road the El Camino is a real pleasure to drive. Smooth and quiet as a family sedan yet capable of keeping up with the fast stuff it handles quite well with the stock suspension very well with the heavy-duty option. Unless one peeks rearward the passengers would never know that the deluxe coupe that they are riding in has a truck out back." Complete Chevrolet Book 1973

1974 El Camino
I dont think the statement about 1973 being the last year for the SS is right. I bought a used 1974 in 1977 and it was an SS.It had a 454 and the stripes around the body with the SS at the front of the stripes on both front fenders. It also had the SS emblems on the inside of the car.
