In 1990 the Corvette took a step back in technology and a step sideways. The interior was changed from the all digital to more modern digital speedo and standard everything else. Well, I have mixed feelings about this change. I like the look of it when the car is off, but when its on you are greated with an orange speedo. So I in that fact I liked the old yellow/green/red of the 84-89, but the layout is much better in the 90-96. This was the biggest change if you don't modify cars. But if you do you will want to steer clear.
The engine got a horsepower increase from alot of made up reasons by GM. New engine managment! Truth is they took a step back. They went from mass air flow(that is on any modern car) to speed density. Well speed density was cheaper. Thats why. It makes more power because of 0 resriction, where a massair car will calibrate the idle. This made performance from 240(conv and base auto due to more restrictive muffler) and 245(manual and performance auto) to 245 and 250. The problem is that speed density can't deal with change. Say anything other then coldair. Even a change in elevation will slightly effect it. So a change or port in heads, manifold(The ungodly intake TPI is awful and should be changed) or throttle it will idel high. You can have speed density made to work but you need to know what you're doing. And if you do you would probably of bought a mass air car or convert it to mass air.(which requires a 89 computer and alot of headaches and money) All for 5 more horsepower. It dosn't seem to be worth it. I converted my 88 mustang to 89 mass air and it is time consuming. But Ford changed from speed density in 89, the Corvette went to it in 90. WHY??? Cost. Don't be a fool and say performance. And Chevy kept it in the Corvette until 94. So if you want to moddify a Vette go for 85-89(perfer 87-89) or 94 up. But if you want just a Vette with 250hp then its fine. Still the TPI is a good durable engine.
The 90 Vette is a good stock starter Vette. Not a monster on power, but a good handling and easy car to drive. The changed interior is a plus, but the speed density made me steer clear.

I owned one of these for several years and I loved it. It was fast, it looked good and it made me feel so “cool” when I drove it. I reluctantly had to sell it after I move to a part of the country that receives a lot of snow. Snow and Corvettes do not mix. A couple of inches of snow will stop it in its tracks. Way too much power at the rear wheels to get any kind of traction. My loss was someone else’s gain.

The great thing about these Corvettes is that they are affordable and if you are lucky you can find one that was cared for lovingly. Find one that has spent its life as a weekend cruiser and you will have found one of the best dollar to performance ratios on the market today.
