1973 Camaro 1973 Camaro

1973 Camaro
  • The LT or “Luxury Touring” model was introduced in 1973. It replaced the SS option and was aimed at the female buyer.
  • The Z/28 returned with several upgrades to set it apart including a rear spoiler, special striping and a beefed up suspension.

The Super Sport option was not available in 1973. In its place was the LT or “Luxury Touring” model. The 1973 Camaro LT was aimed at the female market. Although performance options were available, most buyers of the Camaro LT were more interested in comforts and style than they were in performance. Most of the LT upgrades were appearance and comfort in nature. Some of the most significant upgrades were special badges, Hide-A-Way windshield wipers, dual sport mirrors, 14x7 Rally wheels, power steering, deluxe seats and plenty of simulated wood grain for the interior. The standard engine for the 1973 Camaro LT was the Turbo-Fire 350ci V8 with a two barrel carburetor with 175 horsepower.

The Rally Sport option was available for all Camaro models. The package was basically an appearance upgrade. It included a special black finished grille with silver accents, split bumpers and Hide-A-Way wipers. Of the 96,751 Camaros produced in 1973 16,133 had the RS option added.

The 1973 Camaro Z/28 was the top performance model once again. It was an option package that added $598 to the price of the base Camaro and $502 to the price of the LT. The Z/28’s upgrades included a bright engine accent package, a heavy duty radiator, dual exhausts, a black grille, a sports suspension with heavy duty shocks, 15x7 wheels with white letter tires, a rear deck spoiler and special paint stripes on the hood and the rear deck. Engine changes included a change to hydraulic lifters, the Holley carb and aluminum intake were replaced with a Rochester four barrel carburetor and an iron intake manifold. The result was a drop of 10 horsepower to 245. However, in a nod to comfort, air condition was available on the mighty 1973 Z/28.

Awesome

This is a very nice car, possibly my favorite. About average performance, but very nice looks. A big plus is the parts are easy to find.

Elegant

This was the last of the elegant Camaros. The next model year would bring heavily reinforced aluminum bumpers to the car. Sales were still respectable and performance was acceptable. Overall the 1973 Camaro is an excellent example of the classic muscle car.
